I perform under the name of "Jacque wiles" Singing and playing guitar. My music is soulful with hints of other musical styles. I think my overall look is stylish/urban streetwise. That’s what I tell myself anyway.I was introduced to the guitar at about 9yrs old, I Started playing my brother’s guitar at age about 11yrs much to my mothers’ distress. It was not lady-like. The Family immigrated to The Caribbean in the early 70s. Having settled in to the Caribbean life style we later joined a local church where music was very much in focus and freedom of expression. The Churches guitar player taught me how to tune my then battered guitar and well, I have not stopped since. My early teenage years was spent been in the schools all-girl singing group Love in action. To which I did a solo number which impressed everyone. In between that I sang on various choirs for the church and took part in competitions. I left the earlier church my family had joined and later joined a bigger church with friends that were local. They had a very good, band which performed all over the island. It was not long before I got to be on the churches youth band. I sang with the other three other female vocalists my guitar playing was not up to the standard of their lead guitarist who was a Jimmy Hendrix in the making! But I understood what it took to be successful again we went all around to other churches doing out thing. Been stars in our Christian youth movement that was a part of a Spiritual change that appeared to be sweeping the island. My family moved back to England in the 80’s, by then there was pressure for me to get a career, get a job, and get a life. I trained as a nurse and for a while my enthusiasm for the guitar seemed lost. I still managed to entertain the children on the wards and my student nurse companions when we were off duty. The gospel music once again found me. It had been my inspiration in the past. Praise to God and worship an integral part of my culture and upbringing. This was renewed when I later joined a church that encouraged artistic expression from the heart and soul. At one point I owned 5 guitars. I don’t know what became of them, but such was my love for the instrument. There was always the dream of doing something creative. I wrote songs and dreamed of performing, dreamed of fame. My nursing career excelled perhaps it was not to be. With a failed marriage behind me (I like to think it that it went past its sell by date) and looking to a brand new life and a brand new me, one day I came across a website asking for singers to send their music in, in the hope of performing a Lyrical lounge this became my first venue. Since then there has been countless performances in and around London and Essex. My confidence has been growing and getting gigs is such a blast ; a nervous rush then elation when I get to perform. I have performed for big note at the hope and anchor and The spot. I have done The lyrical lounge at the Battersea barge and many other pubs and clubs. Currently I am writing new songs and have recently found new inspiration. I am ready to do an official album I just need sponsorship and support.
