Bovine CD-Cover No Horizon EP Cat No. - Roc 57 CD Price £3
Its been two years since their debut album Something in the Water (Mythical Records MR2K-006CD) and Falkirks BOVINE are back with the four track NO HORIZON EP an awesome eighteen minutes of inspired and original emotive music. Where their first album laid the foundations, this release sees the band reaching new heights in both song writing and musicianship. Each track has immediate appeal, but by the third or fourth listen the songs really get under your skin and into your system. Listen to Safe Place and try not to say to yourself Yeah, I’ve been there. The title track and Safe Place have a distinct guitar sound; a potent mix of power chords juxtaposed with precise lead parts. Think Pinkerton era Weezer or Wakefields Milloy. Heartfelt vocals add to the accomplished sound, and when you listen to the lyrics you realise that this is not mere catharsis this is broken heart surgery set to music! Her Name was Shelley and Under Rain Cloud have a darker feel to them. With hints of Pixies, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Afghan Whigs, BOVINE show off their more complex side, aided by the polished production on both these songs. This EP represents the coming of age of a young band. After a critical year, BOVINE are taking brave steps outside the somewhat calm waters of the pop-punk scene and are finding that it is possible to make intriguing and exciting music, all it takes is vision and determination. Luckily for us, BOVINE have both these qualities in abundance. Having already played gigs around Scotland and north east England, BOVINE are now looking to play to more new audiences around the country. The band are getting some Scottish dates organised for the summer and recent live shows have shown that their on stage appeal is just as spellbinding as their recorded output. BOVINE are ready to make a big impression this year, are the audiences ready for BOVINE?
