Hailed as one of the srongest unsigned talents that Suffolk has to offer (BBC Radio Suffolk, Sept. 04) Jago began life in 2002 as an acoustic duo consisting of cousins Matt Mead and Steve Renaut. Sharing a passion for writing their own material, these cousins began performing acoustic sets to friends and family receiving praise enough to drive the duo forward in penning their own melodic and highly infectious tunes. Their renowned perfomances at parties led to the recruitment of school friend and naturally gifted guitarist Wayne Elvin. Waynes unique brand of lead guitar added another dimension to the groups already popular music. As a trio confidence grew and gigs moved from living room sessions to local pubs attracting a lively following. The increase in popularity and bookings led to the christening of the band as Jago, inspired by local TV weathergirl Becky Jago. 2003 saw the band produce their first recorded work. The resulting album Introducing Swanny Butler reflected the groups acoustic performances and over 110 copies were sold. Striving to make the leap from acoustic trio to fully fledged band, Jago recruited yet another cousin, Matt Yoy Wilkinson on bass and the young, enthusiastic and talented drummer Dan Peck. The familys musical talent was clearly evident in Yoys creative bass playing and Dans natural ability on the drums provided a stable rhythmic backbone for progression as a musical act. The addition of the new recruits also created the unique situation of five competent song-writers within the group, each bringing their own influences and style - Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, The Kinks, Nirvana, Guns an roses and Blink 182 to name but a few. Their aim was simple - to produce a captivating, energetic live performance delivering their own addictive brand of melodic rock songs. With the recruitment of assistance for their live sound production the number of gigs increased in frequency and progressed to bigger and better music venues including The Norwich Arts Centre, The ferryboat in Norwich, The Drum and Monkey in Ipswich as well as the local circuit of established pub gigs all over East Anglia. 2003 also saw the production of Jagos first recorded work as a five-piece band in The Wizards Sleeve recorded at a home studio. This album showcased the band to date and proved extremely popular with their ever-growing army of supporters and acted as an excellent promotional tool to introduce newcomers to their material. Live performances that year were crowned by a sell-out performance in their home town attracting a crowd of 350 people. The year 2004 has seen the bands most rapid progression to date. The release of their latest album "For what its worth" crisply produced at Purple Studios in Norwich kick-started the development of Jago's unique style and much hard work was put into perfecting their live performance to produce a captivating musical show full of passion and energy It was through the combination of their latest album and breathtaking live performances that Jago attracted a great deal of interest - both from fans flocking to their gigs and the media. Numerous articles were printed about the band in the local press (The Diss Express, The eccles and Bungay and The Eastern daily press) aswell as extensive airplay on Ipswich Community Radio and BBC radio's Norfolk and Suffolk. BBC radio Suffolk were so impressed by the quality of the band that Jago were invited to record a live acoustic session and an interview for Stephen Fosters Drivetime show during September 2004. Media coverage also included television, involving a live interview on a popular Sky TV channel, coverage on Anglia news as well as the band featuring heavily on the Pulse unsigned Sky radio channel. Alonside this media coverage continued the live performances - spreading further afield and increasing in stature with gigs played at The Waterfront, Norwich, The Metropolis Lounge in Peterborough, The Soundhouse in Colchester, Chicago Rock Cafe in Norwich and The Spitz, Spitalfield, London. Jago continue to showcase their undoubted talent and are rapidly developing their unique style for which there is no current parallel. With the ever increasing deluge of ordinary pop acts re-hashing the same old tired songs Jago are proof that there is original talent to be discovered and their aim is simple - to get as many people sharing their passion for original music to hear what they have to offer - a heady mix of melodic songs with clear, pertinent and contemporary lyrics.
